Earlier in the week, Maggie Gyllenhaal, a person whose name we will never learn to spell*, dropped by the premiere of White House Down wearing the bad peplum to end all bad peplums (well, excepting Kim Kardashian‘s maternity peplum pants; those were worse). The dress was Christian Dior, the peplum was knitted and floppy. While we loved the dress’ bodice, the whole look… was not good.
But! The actress redeemed herself in spades last night at the Gotham Magazine party celebrating her summer cover. She wore Fall 2013 Dries Van Noten and she absolutely killed:
In addition to Dries, she carried an Alexander McQueen clutch and wore those gnarly-looking Casadei ‘Blade’ heels (in a kitten height). Which we’re also partial to sometimes.
Anyway, we have absolutely no criticism here. Only praise.
Maybe we just love feathery stuff. Maybe we just love minimalism. Maybe we love black. Maybe we hate jewelry. Maybe we like crew necks a lot? Definitely all of those. Also, her hair is looking fantastic. And her makeup is restrained and pretty.
This is really just playing to our tastes, but what can we say? We like what we like. You didn’t expect the illusion of objectivity on a goddamn fashion blog, did you?
Nice going, Gyllenhaal.
