GQ have named the 20 Most Stylish Men Alive. The list is filled with with some so-stylish-of-course-they-would-make-it-on picks (Eddie Redmayne, Mr. Bond himself, Daniel Craig) and a few names that are up for debate about whether you consider them style icons or not. Jaden Smith was recognized for his unique style choices and it seems that Pharrell and his Mountie hat are still considered fashionable. Harry Styles secured a spot, but it is difficult to know whether that was for his love of skinny jeans and half-buttoned shirts or for his pilgrim hat.
Style icons takes risk and try new things, but not everyone will love them. Who do you think is the most overrated male style icon? It doesn’t have to be someone from GQ‘s list. You may find Johnny Depp’s fedoras to be strange or maybe you’re just very confused about how Justin Timberlake could ever be considered fashionable after the denim disaster with Britney Spears?

When I think “overrated style icon” one of the first names that pops into my head is Kanye West. GQ has him on their best-dressed list but I can’t ignore those those nude body stockings at his Adidas show. One other name that I would argue with is John Mayer. He has gone through phases but his Johnny Depp impersonator plus mullet phase is the one that I haven’t forgotten about yet. He may not be deserving of the honor of “fashion icon” yet, but if he stays away from the head scarves he could be in a few years.
