There are lots of fashionable women in Hollywood but there is only a few who can make us giggle hysterically then give us red carpet fashion envy. And one of them is Melissa McCarthy. She is laugh-out-loud funny and always dresses to impress on the red carpet. She has studied fashion design and just launched a clothing line, so she has a lot of fashion credit to her name.
Take a look at all the times Melissa McCarthy wowed us in the red carpet:
Tulle skirts are popular for eveningwear but if you pick the wrong one, you can look like an out-of-place ballerina. Melissa’s long-sleeved black dress doesn’t look like she is auditioning for Black Swan 2. It is elegant and the detail on the waist is better than any belt.
The majority of the red carpets are now filled with celebs wearing cutouts. Melissa wore this blush dress with cutout neckline back in 2012 before designers starred snipping out sections with wild abandon. The embellishment at the waist and neckline draws attention to her face.
Imagine you received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, what would you wear? It would be a very difficult decision. Melissa opted for a kimono-style purple printed dress with serious wizard sleeves. It takes the right person to pull off dramatic sleeves like that but she did.
There is a of detail in Melissa’s dress but she adds a bit more interest to the look with a pair of cobalt blue high heels. The berry red lipstick is a nice touch too.
Maxi skirts are always associated with bohemian looks but they can be chic too. Melissa’s pleated skirt mixes sheer and sparkly panels so it doesn’t disappear in photos. Can we also take a moment to admire how shiny Melissa’s waves are?

Melissa knows the power of a good gown but she also has some cute casual looks. This mixed pattern jacket with joggers and Converse sneakers is the perfect casual-but-polished weekend look.
A lot of people are scared of animal print. Based on this snakeskin print maxi dress, Melissa isn’t one of them. She doesn’t need to be. The vertical neutral pattern is very flattering and it doesn’t overpower her.
Pants aren’t something you can get too creative with before you start looking ridiculous. Melissa’s wrap harem pants are interesting but don’t look WTF thanks to the monochrome navy color palette and simple styling.
Remember this outfit for next spring because you are still going to want to copy it then. Melissa shows the proper way to wear pastels without looking like a macaron. The sky blue top and dove gray skirt look expensive by themselves but Melissa juxtaposes the soft hues with yellow sandals and a bold lipstick.
When celebrities first attend major awards shows, they tend to go all out with their outfits. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. Melissa decided to keep things simple with a navy gown. She added just enough interest with the gold chain necklace.
Dresses are a staple on the red carpet but people should never forget about how great suits can look. Just check out Melissa’s outfit. The navy jacket with leather trim and coordinating pants are tailored perfectly.
Melissa doesn’t need to rely on the usual sequins and sparkles. She has an innate sense of knowing what prints work on her and for the red carpet and what ones don’t. This long-sleeved white gown with subtle dot print was another hit.
