We all knew the 2014 Met Gala would be host to plenty of beautiful, elegant dresses given its “Charles James: Beyond Fashion” theme–and it was! There were so many incredibly well-dressed celebrities, fashion people, and other guests in attendance. Unfortunately, we could not have guessed just who would be wearing the absolute worst looks of the evening, such as Shailene Woodley, Rashida Jones, Zooey Deschanel, Rihanna and more. So, whose stylists fell short and whose styles fell flat at this year’s Costume Institute Gala?
Poor Elizabeth Olsen missed the memo that the Gala wasn’t Sochi-themed.
…And Chloe Sevigny apparently didn’t hear that it wasn’t Party Monster-themed, either. This Kenzo dress features a peplum and no discernible cohesiveness.
I’m giving Rashida Jones‘ Tory Burch gown a resounding “meh.”
Hayden Panettiere‘s Dennis Baso gown isn’t bad, just boring. Like cotton candy bubblegum that goes flavorless after two minutes.
If you ever needed an example of what “over the top times infinity” looks like, Sandra Lee has got it right here.
This color drowns out Amy Adams‘ radiance and its cut is nothing special; despite being from Oscar de la Renta, just feels sort of “mall prom-y” to me.
Shailene Woodley is one of our favorite stars right now, but this is just a big ol’ batch of WTF from her hair down to her skirt…thing.
I don’t think I could actively hate Sarah Jessica Parker‘s look from Oscar de la Renta more.
Nope, never mind. Totally could hate it more.
Toni Garrn‘s dress looks pretty from afar (especially the lower half), but the bodice is so awkward. Paging Cher Horowitz to discuss Monets, etcetera.
It’s just kind of bent and confusing, like a last-minute Project Runway challenge.
Sarah Paulson‘s dress appears to be going through some sort of arts and crafts identity crisis.
I love you, Rita Ora, but what is on your leg? I probably would’ve been into this Donna Karan Atelier had it not been for that awful early 2000s thing wrapped all the way up her thigh.
Leighton Meester is wearing a very expensive carpet from Urban Outfitters this evening. Or a dress from Emilio Pucci, or whatever.
…And Ivanka Trump is wearing the same carpet in lime green!
Check out the next page for the heavy hitters of bad fashion: Zooey Deschanel, Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and Emma Stone, plus more.
I liked Zooey Deschanel‘s Tommy Hilfiger dress until I realized it had excreted a trail of semen behind it.
While Dee Hilfiger‘s tea-length dress is on the unique side by Met Gala standards, the stitching on her bodice and the wrinkling of the fabric makes this look unpleasant and unpolished.
Not even a beautiful Victoria Beckham grin could make this boring boxy look better. Nor could it improve my alliteration skills, apparently.
I want to love Kristen Dunst‘s Death Star dress from Rodarte so badly except I hate it.
It’s nice to see Kendall Jenner is doing her best “Miss America 1988 Barbie” impression.
Sorry, is Kate Upton going to a Renaissance festival or an old time-y photo booth on the New Jersey boardwalk? Because I am deeply confused by this Dolce & Gabbana look.
Sometimes I think Kim Kardashian and Kanye West actually realize that the title of #MostTalkedAboutCouple comes from a sad place, not a happy one.
I expected so much more from Lena Dunham tonight, but she brought a boring lampshade dress to the table.
Rihanna, another star I expected more from for this theme, went with a fairly boring white crop top and long skirt combo by Stella McCartney.
How has nobody learned their lesson about ensuring their gowns can stay sleek and not wrinkle easily? For goodness’ sake, Claire Danes, your Oscar de la Renta dress deserves so much better than this.
Lea Michele appears to have a gold fanny pack on her Altazurra gown for no particular reason.
You all know how much we love Emma Stone, but what on Earth is going on in this look from Thakoon? I admittedly love her braid, though that’s probably the only redeemable thing I can find here.
Now tell us your thoughts in the comments! Who do you think was the worst dressed of the 2014 Met Gala?
