Michelle Obama is impressing people and doing important First Lady things on her tour of China, but among all her impressive achievements we can’t help but notice how amazingly well dressed she has been the entire time. Obviously there’s a lot more to Michelle Obama’s job than just clothes, but we’re a fashion and beauty site so paying attention to clothes is about 100% of our job, and we think Michelle Obama has been knocking it out of the effing park.
We are constantly impressed by the way she manages to look so put-together and professional while still being able to jump rope and own at ping pong.
We love her spectacular horse-print blouse, which is doubly appropriate because it is currently the Year of the Horse in China. It is not the Year of the Cat, but Sasha Obama‘s cat-covered shirt is adorable anyway. (Our New Year’s Resolution was to stop buying clothes we liked on 12-year-olds, but we need that cat shirt in our lives.)
Any of these outfits would be perfect to wear to work this spring. According to The Huffington Post, she wore this brilliant printed Carolina Herrera sheath dress to address students at the Stanford Center at Peking University. We love the conservative, put-together silhouette of this dress with the lively, colorful print to keep it youthful and modern. Also it goes really well with the wall behind her, which is always a plus.
Obviously there is a whole lot more to Michelle Obama than just her sense of style. She is an extraordinarily intelligent and successful woman, and she also happens to have an excellent eye for fashion. She always looks appropriate for the setting without ever being staid or stuffy, and she enters a room like a breath of fresh air. And as stylish as she is, her clothes always enhance her presence without overwhelming it. When we grow up, we want to be able to dress as cooly and confidently as she does.
Looking at Sasha and Malia, those two seem well on their way to that sort of easy fashion mastery themselves.
