Michelle Obama Thom Browne coat inaugural parade

Michelle Obama waves to the crowd at the inaugural parade

As Sam just mentionedMichelle Obama wore a gorgeous ruby chiffon Jason Wu gown to last night’s inauguration ball. However, the famously stylish First Lady scored a twofer yesterday, with another memorable look worn during the inaugural parade.

Obama opted for a structured, graphic Thom Browne coat dress, which she paired with a bejeweled belt, grape gloves and J. Crew pumps. She finished things off with particularly lovely makeup and those sleek new bangs.

This is, of course, a big deal for Browne (the piece will eventually end up in the National Archives). The designer was asked to send an idea to the White House a few months prior to the inauguration but apparently didn’t know his coat had been selected for the big day. He told the Times:

“It’s overwhelming … It is one of those rare moments in someone’s career that you will always remember. There’s not a word that can really describe it. It’s just amazing.”

Obama has worn Browne’s designs in the past; the two reportedly met at a White House event when he received a National Design Award for fashion design in 2012. They’re been mutual fans since.

Here’s one more shot of Mrs. Obama, along with her also-famous spouse:
