Many celebrities do jumpsuits pretty well. I mean, how could we forget Beyoncé’s floating across stadiums all over the world in that glittering blue outfit? And then there was the jumpsuit to end all jumpsuits that her sister Solange wore last November. While these Bey and Solange’s jumpsuit game is nothing to sniff at, the outfit rapper Missy Elliott wore during last night’s Super Bowl Halftime Show reminded me that Missy knows how to take the jumpsuit to another level.

No Missy’s outfit wasn’t as brightly colored as Katy Perry’s getups, but that didn’t matter. Her jumpsuit and glorious 2000s era music stole the show and as a woman named Charlotte Cattell put it on Twitter, made me want to “[crump] for joy.”  Missy’s black, Nascar-driver inspired jumpsuit had me feeling all kinds of nostalgia for the outfit she wore in her legendary The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly) video.  I like to think that she and her dancers went with the Nascar theme in order to remind us that in the race among innovative, female musicians, Missy is still first.

Of course Katy looked like a bewitching pop empress on the giant lion puppet she rode into the halftime show on.  But I forgot about that when I heard the opening notes of Get Your Freak On and saw Missy’s form framed in smoke and lights. As she chanted “I put my thing down, flip it and reverse it,” I was transported to a decade when I didn’t know what a Katy Perry was and my biggest concern was learning to drive so I could bump “Work It” in my 1992 Honda Accord.

Even Azaelia Banks was gushing over Missy’s Super Bowl outfit:

All I need now is for her to drop a new album and my life will be made.
