On most red carpets, there are a few “hits” and a number of “misses,” whether it’s because of ridiculous cutouts, crazy illusion dresses, awkward Willy Wonka getups…all of it. But then, every once in a while, the switch for style is just on. The red carpet of the Miu Miu Women’s Tales screening was exactly that.
The screening took place in Venice, Italy during the 2013 Venice International Film Festival and marked the fifth and sixth short films from the fashion house’s collaborations with famed filmmakers from all over the globe. The films featured were Le Donne Della Vucciria from Palestinian actress and filmmaker Hiam Abbass and The Door from African-American director Ava DuVernay.
#4. Though I do not typically jump on the “add a belt” train for most dresses, I don’t like the gathering around Gabrielle Union‘s Miu Miu dress’ waist. I think the scarlet panel down its center is gorgeous, though, and her hair and lipstick look perfect. Overall, I think this is my least favorite dress, but on most red carpets, it would be in the “win” category.
#3. Michelle Dockery‘s cute, loose-fitting red Miu Miu mini-dress looked nice with her simple hairdo and black accessories. I didn’t like the leather clutch, though, nor the shoulders of the dress.
#2. Guh, how is it possible that Freida Pinto is just so gorgeous all of the time? While I love the shape and length of this Miu Miu dress, I am not a fan of the zipper down the center of her bust. It feels a little too Nasty Gal for my taste. Nevertheless, her hair and makeup look stunning.
#1: Carey Mulligan‘s simple black and white Miu Miu dress paired with black t-strap heels was a perfect fit. The sunglasses were surprisingly lovely.
I’m leaning toward Carey Mulligan’s as my favorite, but which look do you prefer most?
