Last weekend, we had not one but two big red carpet events. If you’re still talking about what the stars wore to the 2016 ACM Awards or the iHeartRadio Music Awards, you’re about to have something fresh to talk about. It was the 2016 MTV Movie Awards red carpet last night. Even though it is spring, the red carpet gave us a surprising number of dark, moody looks. There was definitely an all-black memo that went out for the show because almost everyone on the carpet ditched color. While it worked out in the majority of cases, there were a few times it didn’t.
Take a look at the best-dressed celebrities at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards:
Cara Delevigne has great off-duty style, but she can slay on the red carpet too. Even if you hate velour fabric, you have to admit this outfit is amazing. It’s super sexy without revealing a lot. The grayish purple lipstick is also an interesting choice.
If a celeb is going to wear a black dress on the red carpet, they should wear one like Jessica Chastain. There are lots of interesting details on this dress from the sheer sleeves to the embroidered hem. The neckline also frames her face beauifully.
Does Charlize Theron ever wear a bad outfit? Nope. There is a lot of detail going on with this dress, then she has added a lace bra underneath. However, it still works. She has kept the rest of her accessories simple to balance it out. The outfit also has an Evil Queen vibe going on which is perfect to promo the new Huntsman film.
Lizzy Caplan deserves a lot more credit for her red carpet looks because she always looks flawless. The way her gold accessories and bag pick up the detail in the dress is very clever. She also looks about 10-feet tall in this gown.
Instead of talking about Gigi Hadid’s new bangs, let’s try to focus on the outfit for a second. This is how you layer like a pro. No detail is overlooked her. Everything is in proportion from the length of the pants to how many buttons are undone on the yellow blouse.
Holland Roden was one of the few people who ignored the all-black dress code and we are happy about it. These blue co-ords are stunning with her pale complexion and red hair. She’s also working a trendy off-the-shoulder top.
Emilia Clarke ditched the LBD in favor of a printed LWD. The print is bold and unique yet it isn’t overpowering. The dress is also tailored perfectly to her every curve.

If this look was in the night’s popular all-black color palette it would have made more of an impact. This peach color doesn’t stand out nor does it do anything for Halsey’s complexion. Furthermore, it could have benefited from some sharper tailoring. The waistband of the shorts hits at an odd spot and the jacket could have been taken in a lot for a sharper finish.
Kendall Jenner is a model and will look good in almost anything. However, this look would have been better if it was kept simple. There are too many strappy details going on. You don’t end up seeing Kendall, you just end up seeing the straps. It makes sense she wanted to work the lace-up detail of the dress in with the shoes, but crisscross shoes that ended at the ankle would have been sufficient.
We can appreciate that Keltie Knight wanted to try something different, but the cropped lace leggings are giving us 2000’s vibes. If they were lined in a darker fabric, it could have worked. Furthermore, she also doesn’t need such a chunky, statement shoe when there was that much going on with the rest of the look.
Is Tyler Posey’s outfit funny? Sure. Is it fashionable? Not exactly. There probably will never bee a person who could show up on the red carpet in a onesise pajama suit complete with feet and end up on a best-dressed list. Then there is the back…
He may not have earned fashion points, but Tyler does deserve credit for owning the look and having a good time with it.
