If there is one thing that you can guarantee about the VMAs, it is that there will always be some wild looks. The daring outfits have become a staple of the show as much as crazy, unplanned moments. The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards did not dissapoint in the fashion department. There were lots of head-turning looks, both good and bad. Some celebs went for sexy ensembles while others unleashed their inner punks. Then there were others who just left us really, really confused.
Take a look at the best-dressed celebs at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards:
1. Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj has worn her fair share of wild outfits on the red carpet. As much as we love a bold Nicki Minaj look, we like it when she goes for a simple, glamorous look. This blue dress may be toned down for Nicki, but it is still sexy and sassy. Plus, she is owning it.
2. Hailey Baldwin
Sheer dresses and jumpsuits are a red carpet staple now, but they are still tricky to get right. Hailey Baldwin mastered the look with this fitted jumpsuit with black detailing. Her black bra and underwear work with the rest of the ensemble. The fit is also flawless.
3. Naomi Campbell
Has Naomi Campbell ever walked a red carpet without looking less than amazing? We don’t think so. She doesn’t need to have beading, glitter and tulle, she just needs a simple strapless dress, like this velvet one. The rounded neckline also works perfectly with her upper body.
4. Ashley Graham
Ashley Graham killed it on the red carpet. Everything from her wet-look lob to her embellished dress is flawless. No detail has been overlooked from her coordinating manicure to the perfect cut of the dress.
5. Amber Rose
Instead of going for the expected sexy VMAs look, Amber Rose opted for a classic one, but with a slight twist. The oversized black suit with the peek-a-boo bra and sunglasses is girl boss-meets-red carpet. Who runs the world? Amber.
6. Hailee Steinfeld
The MTV Video Music Awards is a fun awards show and Hailee Steinfeld wore the perfect outfit to match the show’s theme. This multicolored dress is cool, fresh and young.
1. Rita Ora
Rita Ora loves to play around with fashion, but there is just too much stuff going on here. This punky look would actually be cool in a fashion editorial, but something needs to be removed for the red carpet. There are too many elements competing for attention.
Wearing blazers with only body chains underneath was a surprising trend at the VMAs. The issue with Cassie’s look was there were too many different elements competing for attention. The gold pants, the body chain, the box bag, and her cool yellow hair were all standout things. When you put them together, you’re not sure where to look first…or second…or third.
3. Nick Cannon
Nick Cannon might have been more underdressed than Kanye West at the VMAs, and that is saying something. There’s nothing wrong with an athleisure look, but if it looks like you went from the gym to the red carpet, it is a bit too casual.
4. Farrah Abraham
There are some outfits from the VMAs that look costume-y, but Farrah Abraham wore a literal costume to the event. If the show was on October 31, it would have been alright, but we’re still in August.
