Nicole Richie stopped by Extra (with Mario Lopez!) yesterday as a means to promote her new webseries #CandidlyNicole. There was no explanation given for why the show’s name is stylized that way but this is, after all, the season of the superfluous hashtag.

Anyway, Richie decided to mix some seriously bold prints in head-to-toe Balmain, pairing a maroon and black checkered top (itself mixing prints) with some wide leg black and white stiped trousers AKA Beetlejuice pants. She let the clashing speak for itself and kept hair and beauty minimal with bronzed skin, an unfussy (braided?) bun and some gold shadow. There also appear to be some pointly black pumps involved.

We’re mostly pro-mixing prints (PLEASE NOTICE, STREET STYLE PHOTOGRAPHERS OF THE WORLD!) and we love Beetlejuice here at The Gloss but we can’t get down on visible bra straps:

You can’t go out like that!”) but it definitely detracts from the otherwise polished look. Maybe?

Another negative that must be factored into all things Balmain: the brand’s tendency to price items with a goddamn roulette wheel–meaning the pants and simple shirt probably cost well over $5000 together. Which is, frankly, super lame.
