Perhaps the only thing that’s better than attending an actual NYFW show is sitting around in the surrounding area, admiring all the amazing street style. It’s one of the few weeks out of the year that people voluntarily pull out all the stops, clothing-wise, and the resulting looks run the gamut from gorgeous and on-trend to wild and a little bit too out-there for most people, myself included, to comprehend and fully appreciate.

While there are countless street style looks out there to choose from, here are some of our favorites:

1. The Right Way To Do Casual

Casual-but-trendy can be tough to do without look like you’ve either tried too hard or not put in any effort at all, but this is the right way to pull it off.

2. Matchy-Matchy

Normally, I’m not one for such a matchy-matchy ensemble, but everything in here is just done correctly, right down to the amazing white hair.

3. So. Many. Trends.

Street Style - Spring 2016 New York Fashion Week

This is what I love about fashion week. You can find someone who clearly has a good idea of what’s on trend and what works, and then she keeps interesting by throwing a pair of fashion sneakers in the mix where I’d probably just have worn pumps or ankle-strap heels.

4. The Fashion Jacket

You all know what I mean when I say “fashion jacket.” I’m talking about the artfully-draped coat over the shoulders, as if the sleeves were just a nuisance meant to be ignored. I’m generally in the “how do you even keep your coat on” camp, and would never try to pull off the fashion jacket on my own, but when it’s good, it’s GOOD. This matching dress-and-jacket situation is killing me.

5. The Classic Blogger

It wouldn’t be a real street style post if Chiara Ferragni of The Blonde Salad didn’t make an appearance.

6. Fashion Jeans

If someone could teach me how to wear distressed jeans and still look put-together and high-fashion, that would be greatly appreciated.

7. The Disco Ball

I feel like this is similar to what comes to mind when people hear the words “street style” at fashion week—people think of pieces that are a bit off and that couldn’t never really be worn during any other normal time, but are still stunning and just work because, well, it’s fashion week.

8. The Sort-Of-Weird-But-Still-Great

You know if you saw this girl on the subway you’d be weirded out, but at the same time, the look just WORKS. Plus, the fact that patches are coming back makes me really happy in the most nostalgic kind of way.

9. These Bejeweled Helmets

I saw these two women several times over the course of this week, both in person and on the Interwebs. Can someone please tell me who they are? I have so many questions about what it was like to walk around in the sweltering heat and humidity of NYC in these bad boys.
