By now we’ve all heard that Oprah’s weight has ballooned from a healthy 160 lbs to a hefty 200 lbs. The talk show titan (no pun intended) says she’s “mad at herself” for “falling off the wagon.”
I agree that an immediate slim down is in order. But if you want my opinion (not that anyone asked), I think O looks A-okay as a healthy, full-figured gal. The 54-year-old has been a yo-yo dieter for decades and obviously prefers Tasty Kakes to tofu (who doesn’t?). So it’s about time she embraced her curves.
Of course, being overweight can contribute to diabetes and heart disease, so Oprah probably needs to modify her diet and renew her fitness regimen (paging Bob Greene) to make sure she stays within the normal weight range and body mass index (BMI) for her age and height. She’s done it before and can do it again. At her heaviest, she weighed 237 lbs and at her thinnest she weighed about 140 lbs.

This time, however, the media mogul may finally discover it’s more important to be fit than to try to attain an unrealistic weight loss goal…like fitting into those infamous size 10 jeans again.
“My goal isn’t to be thin,” Oprah says in the current issue of her “O” magazine. “My goal is for my body to be the weight it can hold – to be strong and healthy and fit.”
What do you think of Oprah’s weight gain? Do you think she needs to shed the 40 pounds she gained or set a more realistic weight loss goal?
