FML, I have to do a best-dressed list for this bizarre red carpet.
The People’s Choice Awards have an odd red carpet. It’s a somewhat casual awards show, which confuses a lot of attendees, but it’s still an evening event with a red carpet, so attention must be paid. And a red carpet that is a mess like this one is actually a good opportunity for a lot of starlets to get on best-dressed lists. It’s low-hanging fruit. Are you a TV star who can’t quite compete with Cate Blanchett and Marion Cotillard at a big event? Wear something not-awful to the People’s Choice Awards and you’re guaranteed at least one “best dressed” nod for the year.
Here’s the winners’ circle…
Sara Bareilles is doing the Wednesday Addams thing in Jill Stuart, but I still like the Wednesday Addams thing. Also her Moschino shoes are the most wonderful things ever and perfect with the dress.
Kat Dennings looks like she actually raided the wardrobe department of Reign for this David Meister dress, but it is still gorgeous. Her makeup is fantastic, and she wisely skipped a necklace and just let her skin go unadorned. Kat Dennings should teach classes on how to dress one’s breasts for the red carpet. She’s very good at it, and a lot of other actresses seem confused.
Beth Behrs‘ black and white colorblocking is minimal and elegant.
Lucy Hale‘s Gabriella Cadena dress is giving me Ungaro flashbacks, but in a good way. The black clutch and shoes are weighing the look down, but she still looks good.
I should hate everything about Adelaide Kane‘s sheer illusion, lingerie-inspired Rhea Costa dress, but I don’t. Maybe it’s the face. It takes a lot of poise to be this naked on a red carpet and still look like a precious little ingenue. Her hair, makeup, and shoes are great, and I would like the green clutch sent to my apartment.
Anna Faris‘ Naeem Khan is just the right kind of unexpected. She looks gorgeous and different and wonderfully sparkly. The pants are way too long, though.
Allison Williams‘ bright, strappy David Koma dress is sharp and elegant. I’m not sure what her hair is doing, but the shoes are great with it.
Nina Dobrev looks like a young Alexis Carrington, and that’s great.
