It has definitely become the most anticipated move in a long time, and ever since the release date was pushed from Christmas 2012 to summer 2013 hints have been dropped here and there of what we can expect in The Great Gatsby. It’s been a slow-moving torture, to say the least.
Muiccia Prada, who worked with Baz Luhrmann in 1996 on Romeo + Juliet, joined creative forces with costume designer Catherine Martine, to create over 40 designs that bring the feel of the 1920’s era to life. It was a time of change and opulence, and the costumes reflect that in their extravagant use of sequins, beading and furs. We can only have the best for Ms. Daisy Buchanan and Jay Gatsby, naturally.
“Baz and Miuccia have always connected on their shared fascination with finding modern ways of releasing classic and historical references from the shackles of the past,” said Martin. “This connection is central to our relationship with Miuccia Prada on The Great Gatsby, and has connected our vision with hers. In the same way Nick Carraway reflects on a world that he is within and without, we have tried to create an environment that the audience will be subconsciously familiar with, yet separated from.”
Ok, sure, that’s great and all, and these sketches are definitely making me tremble with excitement, but can we get the summer here already? No just because it’s cold, but I don’t think any of us can wait any longer when it comes to this damn movie! We’ve be teased enough as it is! Baz! Leo! Carey! Tobey! Someone speed up time and get this into my belly!
