There are few people who remain in the public eye for more than a decade or two. Queen Elizabeth II has been in the public eye for pretty much her entire life. She recently became the longest reigning British monarch, having been Queen for just over 63 years. In those decades, she has attended countless events and traveled around the world multiple times. Fashion trends have changed during her reign but the Queen Elizabeth II’s style has remained elegant, chic and full of color.
Take a look at the Queen’s impeccable style over that last eight decades:
We’re used to talking about another royal wedding but Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s definitely isn’t the only one. Queen Elizabeth married the Duke of Edinburgh when she was still a princess in this long-sleeved gown with detailed train.
2. Being Escorted By Richard Nixon, 1957
Queen Elizabeth could pass for any 1950’s movie star here, as she is escorted by Vice President (and future President) Richard Nixon. This elegant dress makes you consider bringing back the shawl for evening.
If you’re surrounded by multiple dogs, people will understand if you’re covered in hair and drool. That isn’t the case here. Her Majesty looks impeccable in this green coat with printed blouse peeking out at the bottom of her cropped sleeves.
There is so much glamour (and power) in this one photograph. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy opted for a column dress with a gathered waist while Queen Elizabeth II went for an A-line tulle dress with contrasting straps on the bodice.
This is probably one of the chicest dog walking photos that you have ever seen. The Queen is wearing one of her signature two-piece suits with block heels, a feathered hat, brooch and multi-strand pearl necklace.

The 1980’s were the decade of over-the-top looks and a more-is-better approach to makeup and accessories. Queen Elizabeth’s printed jacket with contrasting collar, blouse and hat nod to the trends of the decade but she retains her signature elegant look thanks to the structured silhouette and her favorite shoes.
This purple suit and coordinating hat aren’t that different compared to the looks Her Royal Highness wears today. She figured out her signature style early on and stuck with it. If something works, why change it?
It isn’t every day that you see two queens posing together in one photo. Would you believe that this photo was taken 15 years ago? It could easily have been taken last week. Queen Elizabeth II’s white lace gown would work today as well as it did at the turn of the century.
This is how you mix bold colors and patterns like a pro. The Queen usually sticks with a monochrome look but she switched things up by pairing her floral dress with a turquoise jacket and a red hat. Note how the curled detail on her hat is in the same fabric as her frock. That is the sort of touch you expect from HRH.
If you are looking to add more color into your wardrobe, just look to Queen Elizabeth II for inspiration. She wears every shade in the rainbow and looks fabulous in all of them. Here she compliments her fuchsia coat with a fuschia and royal purple hat. The black shoes and bag keep the bold colors sophisticated.
It is outfits like this that you wish you could get a custom hat to go with the rest of your look. Her Majesty’s gray hat with turquoise and black trim works perfectly with her gray coat with black trim and teal dress.
If the Queen had a style blog, this is the sort of photo that would appear on it. She’s got the effortless pose down and her outfit is crisp and polished. Looking at this long pink coat and coordinating hat with black accessories, you hope that it will get cold soon so you can wear jackets like this one.
Queen Elizabeth II has her wardrobe staples (black block heels, gloves, structured handbag) but she still tries new things. You wouldn’t see her in a crop top but she adds a trendy touch with this metallic jacket. Kate Middleton could borrow it.
