Home shoppers of all sizes, rejoice. Fabulous rapper, singer, and actress Queen Latifah is releasing a line of clothing and accessories with the Home Shopping Network in the near future, and it’s going to feature a wide range of items, from clothing, to accessories, to clip-on hair extensions. Furthermore, the clothing will be available in many different sizes. But don’t call the bigger sizes “plus size.” Queen Latifah doesn’t like that term!

“It is a word we need to bury at this point,” she said in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily. “I wanted to make something size two and up. The truth is, we all would like to wear the same clothes. We all want to wear beautiful, fly clothes no matter what size you are, and so for me it was important to match with a company that understood and respected that ideal.”

Furthermore, she said she’d been reluctant to launch a clothing line in the past, despite loving fashion, because she felt the industry didn’t respect the larger/curvier consumer, despite this demographic’s enormous buying power. (Partly due to being an un-tapped market, no doubt.) This is a well-documented problem. I mean, sure, a lot of designers like distancing themselves from fat people, but shouldn’t they like making money more?

I, for one, am glad Latifah ultimately decided to try to change this trend instead of simply complaining about it. The line, called Queen, will debut August 27, with nothing priced above $300. We’ll be watching to see what kind of pieces she and her partners come up with.
