About a year ago, we rounded up “10 fashion trends that need to die right now”--and arguably our biggest vendetta was against then-hugely popular neon (well, and fucking sneaker wedges). Since then, the look has definitely lost its ubiquity on the streets–now, we see the occasional Fluro and that’s about it.
…Maybe because it’s not everywhere anymore, tiring eyeballs wherever it goes, we’ve softened a bit on our stance. Here are 12 red carpet looks that make a surprisingly compelling argument for not banning the shades outright.
Also. Some of the looks here are more neon than others. This was hard.
Chloe Moretz at the Peoples’ Choice Awards this year.
Emily Blunt at last year’s SAG Awards.
Pale brunette Ginnifer Goodwin looks great in orange at the Emmys.
Another unexpected fan of bold colors, Helen Hunt, in 2012, at a premiere for The Sessions.
Kerry Washington in neon-accented Peter Pilotto.
The big gowns, ahead…
Hailee Steinfeld wearing Prada at the SAG Awards in 2011.
Marion Cotillard in Dior.
In what is perhaps the single most successful example of a neon red carpet dress: Julie Bown in Monique Lhuillier.
