Last night in LA, Steve McQueen premiered his latest project 12 Years A Slave–a film that in its short life span has already managed to generate a ton of awards season buzz as well as a reputation for gutting intensity.
…Luckily, our concern at present is only with the red carpet. Here’s what attendees wore to last night’s premiere.
Like the material and overall shape of Kelsey Scott‘s dress, can’t we help but feel the fit is off.
Riqua Hailes wore a studded (sequined?) jumpsuit.
A perforated look (and very high hair) on Gloria Govan.
We don’t know about these capes that mimic a jacket wore over the shoulders–are they witty or twee? Laura Govan confuses.
Not sure we get Ming-Na We‘s look, especially the shoes and dress together.
Children are exempt from red carpet criticism; Storm Reid is way cute, though.
Our pick for best dressed ahead…
Ashley Dyke goes art deco.
Jacqueline Bisset layered her leather.
Chiwetel Ejiofor looking sharp.
Composer Hans Zimmer in purple and brown with daughter Zoe Zimmer and her remarkable cheekbones.
The man of the hour, Steve McQueen, went a little casual in black and blue.
And, as for best dressed…
Lupita Nyong’o looks absolutely spectacular in her pale pink and printed Miu Miu dress.
It’s such a fresh, striking shape on her (especially the neckline) and the colors are perfect.
No, we’re not crazy about the shoes, but everything from the ankles up is stunning.
The beauty, in particular.
