New York Fashion Week is in full swing. The celebs in the front row have all their best outfits steamed and ready, and the street style stars are out braving the cold. If you thought that Kanye West‘s epic Yeezy Season 3 show had already won NYFW, because of the whole Madison Square Garden venue thing and the new-music-listening-party-and-fashion-show-in-one, don’t make your decision just yet. Rihanna debuted her Fenty x Puma collection yesterday. And we all know no matter what Rihanna does at Fashion Month, she usually steals the show.
Rihanna’s show may not have been the extravaganza that Kanye’s was, but what fashion show really is? She may not have had an art installation or a crowd of thousands, but she still got everyone talking with just her clothes alone. The Fenty x Puma by Rihanna collection was the perfect mix of sporty, gothic and sexy. If Wednesday Addams went to the gym and added a bit of sexiness to her look, this is what she would wear. It sounds odd, but trust us, it works.
We have been seeing a ton of sportswear looks due to the athleisure trend. We can also thank celebs like Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid for popularizing gym clothes as regular clothes. However, Rihanna has put her own unique spin on the sporty trend by adding a gothic-yet-sexy undercurrent. Think black crop tops with a hint of underboob and oversized black jackets with nothing underneath that hang off your shoulders. The Puma logo even got an upgrade with a Gothic font.
As you can probably guess, Rihanna’s collection was predominantly black with some white and gray accents. If you are looking for color, the only places you will find it are on the red accents on the back of hoodies and on the mustard shoes.
Speaking of shoes, Rihanna has made a strong case to bring back the sneaker heel. “Sneaker heels” is a phrase you have probably cringed at in the past. However, you may find yourself reconsidering them, just like you did creepers when Rihanna came up with her own version for her first Puma collab.
And can we talk about the hair and makeup from the show for a second? The beauty look isn’t something that most us could wear for everyday, but it was innovative and it perfectly suited the mood of the collection. Models, including Gigi and Bella Hadid, had their hair brushed back off their faces with white color added to the roots. A swipe of moody black lipstick completed the look.
Rihanna has proven on numerous occasions in the past with her outfits that she can make the most unlikely combinations look amazing. Remember the glorified housecoat she rocked? Rihanna has done the same thing with her Fenty x Puma collection so expect to see everyone dressing like sexy, sporty members of The Addams Family soon.
