We loved the stunningly naked Adam Selman gown Rihanna wore to accept her “Fashion Icon” award at the CFDA Awards this week. It was shimmery and scandalous and elegant, and she just flat-out looked amazing. Unfortunately not everybody appreciated it, but Rihanna’s responses to her fashion critics have just further proved that she has a sense of humor as amazing as her wardrobe.

For some inexplicable reason, T-Boz and Chilli of TLC decided to take time out of promoting their comeback to go on an Australian radio show and publicly slam Rihanna for not wearing enough clothes.

“Every time I see you, you don’t have to be naked,” T-Boz said about Rihanna, according to ONTD. “It’s easy to sell sex.”

Of course Rihanna doesn’t have to be naked, but she can be. The amount of fabric over Rihanna’s nipples has nothing to do with TLC.

We became the biggest girl selling group of all time with our clothes on and that says a lot,” Chilli added. “We could go around too with booby cakes out all day long.”

I’m just going to leave “booby cakes” there and roll my eyes at the idea that somehow TLC’s stardom is more valid than Rihanna’s because TLC didn’t show nipple.

I’m disappointed in TLC for butting in to criticize how much Rihanna is covering her body, but I’m still glad they did because Rihanna’s response is her best-ever use of Twitter. First, she changed the background of her Twitter profile to a picture of TLC posing topless, with T-Boz’s finger pasties front and center.

Then, she started illustrating her opinions via an epic series of sub-tweets that leave no doubt about exactly how she feels about the situation.

As good as the naked dress was, the best thing about it was not the sparkles or the head wrap or even the boobs. The best thing about Rihanna’s CFDA look is that it’s given Rihanna countless opportunities to be hilarious on Twitter. Her sense of humor just makes us love her even more.
