In writing about fashion, I try not to be too outraged by the prices of things. A lot of my hesitance is due to megastores like H&M and Zara having distorted our perception of value, so sometimes I come across an item with a hefty pricetag and have to remind myself of production costs and shipping and living wages and the value of design itself. At the end of the day, I believe that a well-made $300 pair of pants is a vastly more sensible purchase than six $50 pairs from a fast fashion label and I don’t think that’s crazy.
But, seriously, Hermés. What the fuck? This is a plain t-shirt. It has a single pocket. Though this is not quite on par with Balmain’s earlier stunt…
