After spending way too much of our lives seeing only hideous, shapeless sacks available on the plus-size clothing market, we love to give props to designers that produce cute, functional, and fashionable items in non-standard sizes. It’s astounding how often clothing companies seem to forget that people come in a variety of shapes, so we like to take the time to appreciate those striving to meet the clothing needs of people who don’t fit in traditional sizes. We’ve supported Kickstarter campaigns that aimed to make bigger clothes for bigger kids, and we fell in love with the people who created yoga pants that eliminate camel toe. Today, we’re super pumped for the invention of Barbell Denim— a line of jeans that work with muscular legs.
Because they often fit into straight sizes, it’s easy to forget that athletic people sometimes have special needs when they’re buying clothes. If you’ve ever tried to force a pair of skinny jeans over a pair of bulging calves, you know that body fat percentage has little to do with a person’s ability to find pants at the mall. According to their Kickstarter page, Barbell Denim is striving to provide better options to people with muscular builds:
Designed for athletes, these jeans are made to fit comfortably over muscular legs by accommodating your quads and butt without forcing you to buy larger sizes for the small waist you work so hard for. … Our hybrid denim stretches both ways so that it can compliment smaller legs, while still easily stretching to accomodate larger legs as well.
Awesome. It’s so silly that something like jeans– which are supposed to be comfortable and easy to wear– are designed with only a specific body type in mind. It’s great to hear that Barbell Denim is getting the funding it needs, because this is one product that could make life a lot easier for people who have a hard time finding comfy clothes.
