Most female celebrities we see on the red carpet are wearing Spanx under their borrowed evening gowns. Adele said she wore “three or four pairs of Spanx” to the Grammys, and slim and beautiful celebrity Katy Perry says she feels fat without them. At Cannes, Jessica Chastain appeared to be wearing a pair custom-dyed to match her purple Givenchy dress. So Spanx did what was natural and made a new line of hosiery and shapewear called “Star Power” inspired by the Spanx girdles celebrities were already wearing whenever they played dress-up.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, the line targets different body areas and have a series of cutsey names to indicate where they’ll be squashing you the most. “Lady Luxe” has stomach-flattening panels that are designed to not be visible under clothing. Some of the shapers look like Hervé Leger bandage dresses already.
“Dress to Slimpress” and “Award Thinners” target legs and include a line of patterned pantyhose. As much as we love patterned tights, we’re not sure we’d want people to recognize the Spanx-specific decorative patterns on our legs. And the line has some really tight leggings, including a leather-look pair for $82.
There are also bras called “Show Stoppers” that have a side closure and are otherwise intended to combat bulges around the bra line.
The line will be available at Macy’s and on the Spanx website.
Also, weirdly, Spanx is doing a line of loungewear called VIP Lounge with QVC this fall.
“The lounge pieces are flattering, classic styles ranging from a scoop tank made with Real Cool cotton that keeps the body cool and dry, to pants in three styles — full-length, capri and tuxedo stripe, with built-in slimming panels,” a spokesperson said.
Because the first thing anyone wants to do after she gets home and takes off her Spanx is to put on another pair of Spanx.
