elle cover

It looks like 2015 is going to be the year of contouring and the Canadian tuxedo, and I can’t say that I’m mad about that. Well, actually, I can, but that’s only because whenever I try to pull off the denim-on-denim look, I look like a very feminine and poorly-dressed Zack Morris from Saved By The Bell. Anyway, as if there weren’t enough celebrities working the two trends on a regular basis, Taylor Schilling‘s cover for the June 2015 issue of ELLE Canada shows her rocking both at once, and she looks absolutely stunning.

The cover itself shows Taylor in a Canadian tuxedo made from the most cozy-looking Chambray shirt and light-wash jeans, with perfectly-contoured cheekbones and an even more perfect neutral smokey eye. I’m assuming that it’s meant to go along with the apparent “Nostalgia” motif of the issue, but she looks more modern than ever, and considering Taylor’s normal makeup routine, I love that she makes this look appear seem as natural as possible.

Real talk, though: Can us normals pull off the whole denim-on-denim/contouring combo? I mean, I kinda figured out how to contour a couple of months ago, but my version of it is waaay more subtle than what they have Taylor wearing on this cover. If I walked out of my apartment with such stark cheekbones and a full light-wash denim outfit, I’m pretty sure I would get more stares than compliments. Then again, I do live in NYC, and we’re a notoriously judge-y bunch.

But what do you guys think? Is it a look that everyone can pull off? Should I give it a try? Let me know in the comments!
