Ah, New Year’s Eve. It’s one of those holidays that always feels like it sneaks up on you, even though all of December is about the holidays.

It’s hard to plan an outfit in advance because if you’re like me, your plans change a million and one times and only get solidified on the 30th. The good thing about that, though, is New Year’s is an easy holiday to transform pieces that you already own into awesome champagne-popping, midnight-kissing, inevitable-hangover-having looks. Take your basic piece, whether it’s your favorite pair of leggings, a great black jean, or that turtleneck every fashion blogger told you you should be wearing and throw some sparkle on it. NYE, like most of the winter holidays, lends itself to sequins and pomp and circumstance. Don’t be afraid to get funky with the shoes or accessories because the best way to say goodbye to a year is to look good doing it.

Here are 6 different ways to take a piece of clothing you already have in your closet and turn it into the perfect New Year’s Eve Party look.

Everyone and their mother was obsessed with turtlenecks in 2015 (though, to be fair, I’m sure your mom was obsessed with turtlenecks way before 2015), so why not say hello to 2016 with some pizzazz in a black turtleneck and sequin skirt. Pair it with a nude lip, awesome burgundy booties and a simple, subtle necklace. Let the sequins do the talking.

If you don’t have a favorite Little Black Dress, you’re doing something wrong. More points if you have one that’s weather appropriate. Go bold in the makeup department with a strong lip, and pair that with oversized and loud accessories like a longline vest, statement necklace and sequin bag. Incorporate another 2015 trend by pairing the LBD with a killer pair of over-the-knee boots.

In my opinion, you never feel sexier than in a perfect pair of jeans and a great pair of heels. Take that inspiration and turn it into a nighttime look for NYE by going all-over sequin in the top and chic with the outerwear. Go funky with the accessories like a sky-high heel and eyeball bag to balance out the otherwise classic shape and style of the outfit.

Leggings are a perfect NYE go-to, because if you pack a pair of roll-up flats in your bag, you won’t have to worry about any walk of shame. On the other hand, they can get boring and blah very quickly. Go for some kooky patterns like this oil slick tunic and don’t forget the fur collar.

I am a huge advocate of anything striped, so this is right up my alley. A simple striped tee makes a leather pencil skirt seem more Night Out than Office Appropriate, which is exactly what you want for New Year’s. Glam it up with sequin heels, a cape blazer (which you know we love here), and a classic red lip.

This is for that casual get together but you still want to be the best-dressed there. Because of the classic pairing of a loose blouse and baggy jean, go bold with the rest. A patterned duster coat, sequin sneakers, and a novelty purse are the best way to say hello to 2016.
