I am a pretty avid fan of all things lingerie-like, so when I saw that there was a crazy dress that turns see-through when you get turned on, I instantly became fascinated. For a moment, please imagine all the people you know wearing clothing that will reveal whether or not they’re horny. Sounds both revealing (pun intended) as well as nerve-wracking, but either way, a transparent dress that only becomes that way when there wearer is feeling intimately excited is a bizarrely amazing idea.

INTIMACY is a “high-tech fashion project” by Daan Roosegaarde whose company, Studio Roosegarde, employs a team of designers and developers to create interactive style items. The line consists of dresses which, by some amazingly engineered means, become transparent when the wearer’s body is acting intimately stimulated. The project Studio Roosegaarde’s way of exploring fashion and romance’s link, according to its website, which sounds pretty damn fascinating/complicated to me:

[INTIMACY’s] high-tech garments entitled ‘Intimacy White’ and ‘Intimacy Black’ are made out of opaque smart e-foils that become increasingly transparent based on close and personal encounters with people.
Social interactions determine the garmentsʼ level of transparency, creating a sensual play of disclosure.
INTIMACY 2.0 features Studio Roosegaardeʼs new, wearable dresses composed of leather and smart e-foils which are daringly perfect to wear on the red carpet. In response to the heartbeat of each person, INTIMACY 2.0 becomes more or less transparent.

Awesome, right? It’s like an invisibility cloak! Except it just makes itself invisible. And you actually become more prominent. So, kind of the opposite. But take a better glance anyway:

How it works (as if this explains anything)

While you cannot buy the dresses in stores at the moment, if you happen to be near Kent State University Museum later this year, you’ll be able to see them on display. According to Roosegaarde’s website, the designer is presently selecting “haute couture designers to develop the next INTIMACY 3.0 fashion line for men and women.”

If you’re wondering what it looks like in action, here’s the video Studio Roosegaarde released:

I’m not sure I would ever be willing to actually wear this type of garment anywhere but in the privacy of my own home. I mean, what if I run into somebody I find particularly attractive? BAM. Grocery store produce section becomes my only way of shielding the world from my own mangoes, ya feel me? Nevertheless, it is cool that this exists. The bond between fashion and wild technology is increasing by the day, so it’s always awesome to see how far designers can and will take things.
