Valentine’s Day dates are full of romance and red roses and mushy-gushy grossness. But if you’re anything like me, you’re already stressing about what to wear.

Everyone thinks Valentine’s Day is all about the red dress, but for me, red was never my color. I felt like I stood out too much and was a giant, walking cliché. Black is my, and many other women’s, comfort zone. But it gets a bad rap as being boring and blah, but there are so many options with black dresses, both in the cut and style and the accessories that you can pair with them.

A good LBD is never a bad option, especially if you feel sexiest in black. Here are 10 options for all different occasions.

Sabine Noir ‘Stelen’ Dress (Need Supply, $70)

You can’t go wrong with a simple tank dress with a cool neckline and a keyhole back because this bad boy can be dressed up incredibly easily without overdoing the accessories. Just go for a killer shoe and a wrist full of bracelets and you’re good.

Lace Inset Bodycon Dress (Torrid, $64.50)

Bodycon dresses are kind of played our for V-day but adding a touch of lace and a seamed bust feels much more mature than a simple, stretchy dress. The peek-a-boo hem adds some sexiness without feeling like you’re ready for the club.

Solace London Riley Knee Length Dress (Shopbop, $168)

If you’re in the mood for a little more high-fashion in your LBD, add some mesh and sideboob. The longer length of this dress balances out how much skin is shown from the mesh cutouts.

ASOS CURVE Body-Conscious Dress With Frill Sleeve (ASOS, $43)

I love flutter sleeves, especially when it’s on such a simple dress like a LBD. You have so many options for shoes and bag to make your look really stand out.

Swoon-er or Later Black Long Sleeve Lace Dress (LuLu*s, $67)

Don’t let the low cut front scare you if you’re nervous to show so much skin. There are hooks hidden in the lace that can be used to cover up a little bit of your chest if the low-V is showing too much for your taste.

Nasty Gal Francois Ruffle Dress (Nasty Gal, $78)

The ruffles may seem too little girly for a Valentine’s Day date, but the open back and flowy skirt add a touch sex appeal.

Stop Staring! Film Noir Fatale Dress (ModCloth, $190)

How gorgeous is this dress? Add a pair of vintage-inspired pair of heels and you have the sexy pinup look ready to go for your date night.

Rise Of Dawn Cutout Halter Dress (Forever21, $98)

Rise of Dawn is one of the labels that F21 carries that’s more on the high-end of the spectrum, which means the quality is much higher. A shawl collar and cutouts seem like they won’t work together but this dress proves that wrong.

With the Fringe Crowd Dress (ModCloth, $80)

I bought this dress for my holiday party and got so many compliments. The cut is perfect, the tiny amount of detail in the “fringe” is just enough to feel fancier than a plain black dress. It’s the perfect LBD, in my opinion.

Donna Morgan Embroidered Organza Two-Piece Dress (Nordstrom, $196)

Donna Morgan Two-Piece

If you don’t think a two-piece dress is a thing you should own, you’re obviously wrong. The lace detail is gorgeous and there’s enough of volume in the top and bottom to feel playful and sexy at the same time.
