Alicia Keys arriving at Whitney Houston's funeral

Unlike Alexander McQueen’s funeral two years ago that brought out a wide array of fashionistas and some of the gorgeously outrageous outfits he designed, Whitney Houston‘s funeral saw none of that. Although the mourners were made up of fellow divas and other A-list celebrities, everyone in attendance was dressed very modestly to ensure that it was Whitney who had the stage one last time.

The baptist church where the funeral was held in Newark, NJ was a sea of black yesterday as family and friends gathered to send the beloved diva “home.” Among them were Oprah Winfrey, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys (who sang “Send Me an Angel”) and Mariah Carey. Even Carey who is known to choose fashion options that are definitely meant to draw all eyes on her, was quite demure in her black attire and black sunglasses.

The afternoon was mostly led by Whitney’s cousin, Dionne Warwick and Tyler Perry also took to the podium in traditional baptist style to point out Whitney’s relationship with God and the church where she not only grew up but took her final bow yesterday.

In addition, last night during SNL, host Maya Rudolph chose not to do her infamous Whitney impersonation out of respect for the singer. Instead, the cast poked fun at Beyonce, Prince and even Bon Iver with Justin Timberlake doing the honors on that one.
