Honestly, it’s no surprise that Lady Gaga’s pantsuit on the red carpet is all anyone can talk about. It was flawless, literal perfection. But she wasn’t the only one that eschewed the traditional Oscars gown.
Elizabeth Banks rocked a full-on glam jumpsuit to the Vanity Fair Oscars After-Party because why the hell not? What also really throws me for a loop is how freakin’ high-fashion this looks, while still feeling very Elizabeth Banks. I don’t normally associate fashion risks with her (unless, of course, you count Effie Trinket) but this was a big risk and it paid off in an even bigger way. Lady Gaga also did a quick switch later in the night to a similar style that she wore to the awards show. Jumpsuits (and pants in general) for the red carpet have always gotten the attention of critics. Think Emma Stone or Emma Watson or Kristen Stewart. There are so many pairs of pants that come to mind that it’s no secret that pants and jumpsuits CAN be dressy, if you do it the right way. Go wide-leg or palazzo. Make it look like you’re wearing a killer dress and then BAM! Pants.
I mean, case and point:
Here are 11 wide-leg jumpsuits that take Gaga’s trendsetting Oscars look and make it doable IRL.
Haute Hippie Embellished Silk Wide-Leg Jumpsuit (Saks Fifth Avenue, $358)
This is an expensive one, but if you have a black tie event and want to get away from a traditional gown, I don’t think you’ll find a better option.
Have a super-cool spring wedding coming up? Why not a pastel palazzo pant with embellished top?
Rachel Comey Summon Jumpsuit (Need Supply, $240)
Again, yes, expensive. But how effing chic is this jumpsuit?
The Fifth Label Poetry In Motion Jumpsuit (Forever21, $125)
Now this just looks like a really cool midi dress that I would want to wear forever and ever, and then all of a sudden, pants.
Floral Palazzo Jumpsuit by MYNT 1792 (Lane Bryant, $288)
Yes, this is a jumpsuit. Yes, it’s amazing. No, I’m definitely not drooling on my computer keyboard.
The Allflower Switch Wide Leg Jumpsuit (Revolve, $217)
Oh my god I wish I had somewhere/the confidence/the money to wear this. It’s so good.
Rare London Wide Leg Jumpsuit with Lace (ASOS, $100)
Personally, I would’ve styled this with a nude bra under neath for that awesome illusion, but it’s still gorgeous.
Contemporary Abstract Tie-Dye Jumpsuit (Forever21, $19.81)
This looks like the most perfect maxi dress but it’s not and I like it even more.
Floaty Palazzo Jumpsuit (SimpleBe, $55)
Sara confessed her love for cobalt blue and I can see why. This is just an awesome color and why not wear it in jumpsuit form?
Adrianna Papell Colorblock V-Neck Jumpsuit (Dillard’s, $180)
This one is my curve ball, because it really is one part dress, one part pants. I’m into it.
