88th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Honestly, it’s no surprise that Lady Gaga’s pantsuit on the red carpet is all anyone can talk about. It was flawless, literal perfection. But she wasn’t the only one that eschewed the traditional Oscars gown.

Elizabeth Banks rocked a full-on glam jumpsuit to the Vanity Fair Oscars After-Party because why the hell not? What also really throws me for a loop is how freakin’ high-fashion this looks, while still feeling very Elizabeth Banks. I don’t normally associate fashion risks with her (unless, of course, you count Effie Trinket) but this was a big risk and it paid off in an even bigger way. Lady Gaga also did a quick switch later in the night to a similar style that she wore to the awards show. Jumpsuits (and pants in general) for the red carpet have always gotten the attention of critics. Think Emma Stone or Emma Watson or Kristen Stewart. There are so many pairs of pants that come to mind that it’s no secret that pants and jumpsuits CAN be dressy, if you do it the right way. Go wide-leg or palazzo. Make it look like you’re wearing a killer dress and then BAM! Pants.

I mean, case and point:

This looks like the most perfect maxi dress but it’s not and I like it even more.

This one is my curve ball, because it really is one part dress, one part pants. I’m into it.
