Yes, everybody gives famous people shit when they bitch about being famous, but there are many aspects of it that seem genuinely unsettling–entrusting your image to others, for example, and having little to no say in how that manifests. Though a celebrity might expect an entity like Vogue to make them appear glamorous and buffed to perfection, the magazine might also chop off an arm, make one look like a painting or remove one’s body entirely. …Luckily, the millions of dollars and avalanche of freebies at all times cushions that blow.
In the case of Claire Danes on the August cover of American Vogue, they seemed to capture the exact moment that someone made a joke and Danes didn’t find it funny. At all. Rather, Annie Leibovitz did.
Luckily, the shoot–which brings along Danes’ Homeland costar Damian Lewis–is a little more typically Vogue. Styled by fashion editor Tonne Goodman, Danes wears Burberry Prorsum (the trench on the cover), Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, and Victoria Beckham for the espionage-seemed shoot. Lewis wears Prada and Dior among others.
