Welcome to the first open thread on TheGloss! We’ve talked a whole lot about gifts you can get other people, as well as how to make sure you don’t lose your mind during the holiday season, but we haven’t talked a whole lot about what you want for yourself.
Given all the wild holiday and end-of-the-year sales going on, there is a lot of temptation to buy that gorgeous purple J. Crew sweater marked down to $45 or that epic pair of black heels you could wear on New Year’s Eve. Obviously, we can’t all run around like Cher Horowitz, dropping dollars on whatever comes our way, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed to dream!
So, if money were no object, what would gift would you want the most this year? It has to be at least a little selfish. I think my number 1 wish would be for people to not adopt animals they can’t care for, or for teachers like my mom to get paid more, or to have all my loans taken care of, but this thread is all about what your most selfish, instant-gratification-loving self wants more than anything, whether that’s a trip or a pricey set of earrings or tickets to see Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart in “Waiting for Godot.”
For me (Sam), it would be a cruise. I’ve always wanted to go on a cruise and get wasted on an open bar and eat lobster and sleep in all day, then wake up to the ocean. And I’ve never been to South America, which sucks since I’m half-Peruvian, so hopefully the cruise would be there. And nobody would judge me for how many desserts I take from the buffet, nor how unnecessarily often I dress up for dinner and walk down the stairs so I can pretend I’m in Titanic.
What gift do you want most in 2013? Tell us in the comments!
