Britain’s Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, and husband of 60 years to Queen Elizabeth II might soon be adding another title to his name. The Queen will reportedly honor her husband with the title of Prince Consort, to be given on their 60th wedding anniversary in November this year.
“The Duke of Edinburgh has been consort in all but name since her coronation. But it’s one way of honoring her husband for his outstanding work during her reign,” the New York Post quoted Royals commentator Richard Mineards, columnist for the Santa Barbara News-Press, as saying.
If the Duke of Edinburgh is bestowed with the title, it will only the second time that the UK will have a Prince Consort.
The last royal spouse to hold the title was Elizabeth II’s great-great grandmother Queen Victoria’s husband Prince Albert – 150 years ago.
I hope this is true. But I also wonder what has taken The Queen so long?
