Back in 2011, I ranted on and on about how The Social Network was going to be a terrible movie because (to quote myself) “Why the hell would anyone want to watch a movie about Facebook?!” Oh, how I have eaten my words in heaps and heaps. Not only was the film a critical success, but it turned out to be one of my favorites that year.

As such, I am fond of this spoof of said movie that focuses on a more “2013” social networking site: Tinder. I will be open by saying that my Tinder experience is limited to watching my friend use it once, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying this overdramatic parody.

The team at Bad Weather Films have captured the same atmosphere that made the David Fincher film become more than a website movie – things like shots of boats, haunting choral music, a protagonist in a GAP sweatshirt and Sean Parker inspired dialogue. It does also have that little bit of You’ve Got Mail vibe, trying to know if that person on the other side of the screen is the one. A little something for everyone.

So could it be that Tinder: The Movie (okay, at least just the parody trailer) is even more chockfull with emotion that these two movies?! Swipe right for yes and swipe left for no.
