Do you ever get the feeling that other countries are better at protesting than we are?

The reason I ask is that after three members of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot were sentenced to two years each in jail yesterday for storming a church in Moscow and daring to sing a song in protest of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a member of the Ukrainian feminist group FEMEN — which is known for staging topless protests — took a chainsaw to a massive Orthodox cross in Kiev, camera crew in tow, with the words “Free Riot” painted across her chest and arms.

The activist, Inna Shevchenko, then proceeded to pose like Jesus being crucified in the place where the cross had fallen.

So. Not that it’s a competition or anything, but Russia and Ukraine just kind of kicked the rest of the worlds’ ass in terms of making a political point. And once again, for the record, hot women can look hot and simultaneously do lots of other awesome stuff.
