The Chronicles of Narnia (any title): You won the school spelling bee but lost in the second round at the district level. You pretended not to mind (who cares about losing a stupid spelling bee?) but you did. As an adult, you either love or hate C.S. Lewis passionately. There is no middle ground, C.S. Lewis-wise.

Walk Two Moons: The girls at your school made fun of your hair almost every day for two years, then just as suddenly stopped. They didn’t become your friends and they never apologized; it was just as if those two years had never happened and you became invisible.

Charlotte’s Web: Your best friend thought books about animals were for babies, but you didn’t care. She teased you for liking it all the time. She teased you for the way you kept your room just like it had been in the second grade, all lavender and curtains, but you didn’t mind it either. She was much nicer when it was just the two of you.

Annie on my Mind: You are so, so gay. Oh, honey. Just so gay. Even now, seeing the old cover, with the two girls holding hands and resting their foreheads against one another, sends your heart into super-gay palpitations.

Tam Lin: Your school offered French, German, and Spanish electives, so you put in a special request to take Latin classes at the local community college.

Flowers in the Attic: You found it at a garage sale and had a lot of questions you couldn’t ask anyone. Your parents didn’t have any rules about what you could watch on TV.

Bridge to Terabithia: A part of you hoped that one of your friends would die. Not really, but kind of. Just to see what it would be like. Everyone would feel so sorry for you.

Starring Sally J. Friedman As Herself: You were not Jewish but thought it seemed terribly interesting and glamorous.

Tuck Everlasting: You still think “Moon River” is the saddest song in the world.

The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven: You had a secret older boyfriend you only ever saw in the afternoons at the mall when your mom let you go out with your friend who always covered for the two of you. He bought you a heart necklace from Forever 21 once. Your friend couldn’t stand him and rolled her eyes whenever he asked her a question. “What do you see in him?” she asks you when he wasn’t around. “Why do you hang around with her?” he asks when she goes to Orange Julius.

Animorphs: Everything in life comes easy for you: sports, relationships, friendships, work, money. Everything. You fall asleep within ten minutes of turning out the lights. You never worry.

The Mists of Avalon: Your mother wouldn’t let you cut your hair until you were 15. Combing your hair after a shower took forty-five minutes. It was ridiculous.
