Premiere Of RADiUS-TWC's "Lovelace" - Arrivals

Amanda Seyfried is profiled in the upcoming issue of W, and talks about the whole career-life balance we’ve all been hearing so much about, her current projects, and everyone’s favorite topic: movie sex scenes. While the whole profile is a quick an interesting read, I pulled the pervy parts. As to be expected, Seyfried delved into that whole sex scene conversation that inevitably comes up in every interview with any actress who’s ever kissed another human on screen, and while most actors demurely say it’s awkward or uncomfortable, Seyfried went the other direction and I love her for it.

“Sex scenes are great. A lot of my costars have been sexy guys my age who are really respectful and cool. So, why not? I’m not going to pretend it’s not fun.”

Besides the charm, there’s a lot to say about how great this quote is. Most importantly: the mention of respectful costars is a seriously great plug for consent and communication. The physical contact might be highly choreographed and the connection is staged, but that doesn’t mean consent goes out the window. If you’re 15 and in a school play, remember that, always. On the fun side, Seyfried admits to what everyone else deflects with talk of “professionalism”–attraction can happen in weird situations and those scenes seem awesome (provided you can get past the scores of people in the room watching, but maybe you’re into that and in that case I say hats off to you).

I’ve long loved Seyfried for her body positivity and openness about her anxiety, and her brand of likability has always been the most effective in my book. She’s not falling over herself every second Jennifer Lawrence-style, but speaking eloquently about relatable issues. Or just owning up to something we all know, which is that those actors love those sex scenes. I don’t blame them–who wouldn’t?
