amber heard is a beautiful feminist

While you’re waiting for Jennifer Lawrence to call you back, take a second to look over this ultra-feminist, bomb-ass interview with your new best friend, Amber Heard.

We’ve known for a while now that Heard is a vision and a sex goddess, but it turns out she’s also cool as hell. The actress talks about dating, sexuality, gender roles, and patriarchal bullshit in the upcoming issue of Company, and now I have an unshakable desire to paint her toenails. About the lack of fleshed-out roles for actresses, Heard tells it like it is:

You name me movies where the woman’s part isn’t narrower than the man’s and they will be the exceptions– not the norm. We still have characters who are defined by physical attractiveness. I try to search for roles where the character is not dependent on how she looks.

Get it, girl. As an openly bisexual woman, Heard has a reputation for being outspoken about shit that matters. She credits Angelina Jolie as a role model, calling her “an incredible force in terms of challenging the status quo.” Heard goes on to praise Jolie for speaking honestly about her own bisexuality, “which I love her for. Honesty is best– staying quiet can be so detrimental.”

Is she your heroine yet? Mine too.

Heard also tackles the issue of the obligatory smile— when men try to require that women always be smiling in public. “It took me a very long time to overcome the cordial instinct, the polite instinct to smile and say thank you when someone compliments you,” Heard says. It’s so refreshing to see someone use their fame to bring attention to unpopular topics. Looks like you don’t have to smile at strangers in order to land an NBC drama or have weird island sex with Johnny Depp.

Let me know when you’re free for coffee, Amber. You don’t have to smile. Just love me. Please.
