Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than by reminiscing about some of the greatest love stories ever told? And by “greatest love stories ever told,” I mean “celebrity couples who broke up and I’m still not over it.” The following are 18 couples who should definitely consider reigniting the flame this Valentine’s Day (because I said so, that’s why).
1. Courteney Cox and David Arquette
(Photo: Marcus Hoffman/WENN)
Courteney and David met while filming the first Scream film in 1995 and were later married in 1999. Their marriage lasted an epic 14 years and produced a daughter, Coco, and one of the most unfunny guest appearances ever on Friends (sorry, David, but the writers did you dirty on “The One with the Jam“. Real dirty.)
2. Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt
Ugh. I’ll be honest, this one still hurts, guys. This one still hurts real bad. I remember being genuinely shocked and upset when Brad and Jen divorced in 2005 after five years of marriage. Then again, I was a hormonal 16-year-old in 2005 and pretty much everything upset me, but this divorce was a big deal. How could two such gloriously attractive people not be anything but totally and completely in love with each other? How, Angelina, HOW?

This is another one that still hurts. Johnny and Vanessa were supposed to be soulmates–eccentric, gorgeous, let’s-go-live-in-the-south-of-France-and-also-on-our-private-island kind of soulmates. After 14 years of partnership (the two were never married), they separated in 2012, and I haven’t been the same since.
If we can’t get Johnny and Vanessa back together for Valentine’s Day, can we at least see him reunite with Winona? These two were the ultimate 90s grunge-chic power couple. #
5. Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter
Speaking of Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder, let’s talk about the man who first brought them together: Edward Scissorhands director Tim Burton. Tim is one half of a celebrity couple that should have never, ever ended. He and actress Helena Bonham Carter were together for 13 kooky years before calling it quits two months ago, but I’m holding out hope for a Valentine’s Day reconciliation between these two.

Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez Zac and Vanessa met onset of High School Musical in 2005 and broke up in 2010, effectively destroying the illusion of ever-lasting love for sixth-graders everywhere. Whatever happened to, “The couple that sings and dances together stays together”?
7. Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake
Another couple that singing and dancing simply could not save: Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears. They broke our hearts, but they also showed us that true love
waits wears matching denim outfits on the red carpet, and for that, I thank them.
8. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson

The demise of Robsten had everything a juicy Hollywood breakup should: there were two attractive costars, blockbuster movies, infidelity caught on camera, and a very public (and very candid) mea culpa. There was also Will Ferrell sobbing about the whole thing on a taping of Conan.
9. Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson
Lindsay and Sam began dating in 2007, and both have said the relentless paparazzi attention ultimately drove them apart in 2009. I can’t remember Lindsay looking happier than she did when she was with Sam, so maybe it’s time these two gave it another go.

10. Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus
(Photo: Nikki Nelson/WENN.com)
This Miley is our favorite Miley–smiling, long-haired, and loving up on Liam Hemsworth. While the two met on the set of their highly forgettable film, 2010’s The Last Song, the love affair that they shared was anything but forgettable. I mean, they walked their dogs! She went to pilates! They skateboarded! Those were the days, man. Those were the days.
11. Jennifer Lopez and Sean “P. Diddy” Combs
(Photo: Nikki Nelson/WENN)
Um, hello, world’s most controversial dress and world’s most missed power couple! Jennifer Lopez and
Puff Daddy P. Diddy announced the end of their relationship on February 14th, 1998–yes, you read that right, on Valentine’s Day. Jennifer, Diddy, why not get together this Saturday to talk things out, just for old time’s sake?
12. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck
If Jennifer can’t work it out with P. Diddy, then maybe there’s still hope for her and Ben. OK, I know he’s happily married to another lovely and talented Jennifer, but I can’t help but miss seeing him and J-Lo together. Remember how scandalized 13-year-old you was when Ben rubbed Jen’s bikini-clad butt in the “Jenny From the Block” music video? Or was that just me?
13. Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet
(Photo: Lenny Kravitz/Instagram)
Can we just go ahead and declare Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet to be the most attractive couple of all time? Their marriage produced a lot of brooding black-and-white photos and a genetically blessed daughter, Zoe Kravitz.
14. Ryan Reynolds and Alanis Morissette
I know Ryan was married to Scarlett Johansson prior to wedding Blake Lively in 2012, but his original true love was his fellow Canadian, Alanis Morissette. While they weren’t exactly an obvious couple–she was the woman who gave you the world’s greatest hell-hath-no-fury power anthem and he was, well, Van Wilder–they were head over feet in love for the five years they were together.
15. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams
(Photo: Adriana M. Barraza/WENN)
And now for the world’s most beloved Canadian couple of all time: Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. These guys kissed in the rain. Her built her a house. If she’s a bird, he’s a bird. I mean, come on! Why are they doing this to us? Just get back together already!
16. Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon
(Photo: Jody Cortes/WENN)
Ryan and Reese, Reese and Ryan. They met on the set of 1999’s Cruel Intentions and were married soon after, but the relationship ultimately ended in 2007 amid rumors of infidelity on Ryan’s part. Reese is now happily married to talent agent Jim Toth, but Ryan and Reese will always hold a special place in the hearts of all of us who lied to our parents and said we were watching Little Women on TV when we were actually watching Cruel Intentions.
17. Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom
Khloe and Lamar tied the knot after knowing each other for only a few weeks, so needless to say many people doubted that their marriage was going to have any sort of lasting power. I, however, was not one of the doubters–nope, I fell for it hook, line, and sinker, so when rumors about infidelity and drug use on Lamar’s part began circulating, I was left reeling. I’m still holding out hope for them, though.
18. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet
I can hear you screaming at me that these two were never a couple in real life, but can you let me enjoy my delusion for a moment here? Kate and Leo are meant to be, and the fact that they are not married and living happily ever after in a greenhouse in the English countryside is not OK with me. Kate and Leo, if you’re reading, let’s make it happen this Valentine’s Day, please?
