I think one of my most greatest fears is crying during sex. Well, compared to home invasions and leprosy, it isn’t that great of a fear, but it’s pretty far up there. I had, on one occasion, got tears in my eyes because an orgasm was so good, but that was the extent of it. The fella I was wit, didn’t notice and that was a very a good thing, because who wants to be with a cry-baby during sex?
This week’s Dating Hijinks comes from someone who would like to remain anonymous. So, this means I shall call her Bettie Cakes, as she is clearly the sister of the ever elusive Johnny Cakes.
I met K one night when I was acting as wing-woman for a friend. She had been approached by a guy, and as they began to hit it off, it was my job to entertain his friend — K. He was nice enough, but definitely not my idea of someone I’d want to date. Although he was attractive, I just felt that something was missing in the conversation. It was as if our sense of humor was a bit off.
But when the night came to an end and my friend went home with his, I agreed to share a cab with K. We talked as we had all night, and when he asked me on a date, I said sure. I’d been single for awhile, and since he wasn’t trying to have a one-night stand, I thought I’d give him a chance. Maybe his sense of humor just needed to work.
K and I went out on a few dates and each one was great! Even though things were still a bit choppy on the conversation end, I found myself getting more and more excited to see him each time we hung out. It was on the fifth date that I invited him to spend the night.
After my past relationships, I had decided to slow things way down and allow some courting to happen before jumping into bed with someone. I also avoided heat of the moment goodnight kisses that could have easily led to more get in the way of how I wanted to proceed in my future relationships.
K followed me into the elevator where we began to kiss, and I started to anticipate what would be great sex based on his kissing technique. So yadda yadda yadda we get to my apartment, the clothes come off, we’re in bed, we start to have sex then HE STARTS TO CRY.
At first, I thought he was joking, or maybe sniffling from a cold, so I asked him if he was crying not expecting the answer I got. “I’m sorry,” he said, “I’m just so moved by all this.”
I’m all for guys who are sensitive, but crying in bed? Crying over being “moved” and not because his mother or something just died? I was immediately turned off. I pulled away from him as much as I wanted to somehow be a good person and lay next to him and hold him. He apologized, and I apologized, too. As we laid there in silence, it was the longest 20 minutes of my life, or maybe it was just five minutes, but it felt like 20.
Before I could ask him to just go and call me later, he kissed my forehead and excused himself. At least I was saved that awkwardness.
We went on a couple more dates after that, but we never really recovered. Every time I looked at him all I could picture was the way he looked when his body was above mine as he cried because he was so “moved.” I always assumed I was decent in bed, but if I’m bringing guys to tears, then I’m really not sure what to think anymore.
