The past few weeks have been rife with invitations to Marine Corps Balls, going out from servicemen and women to Mila Kunis, Justin Timberlake and, most recently, Betty White.
Timberlake and Kunis have accepted, but White turned the invitation down, lending credence to our theory that the invitation from Sgt. Ray Lewis was just a little too jokey for her to accept. Nevertheless, it should be noted that she declined with style, saying, “I am deeply flattered and truly appreciate the invitation, as everyone knows I love a man in uniform… but unfortunately I cannot accept, as I will be taping an episode of ‘Hot In Cleveland.”
In her wake, though, actress Linda Hamilton has popped up out of nowhere to turn the tables on Lewis, and released her own video begging him to take her in White’s stead. Wearing her trademark aviators, Hamilton tells Lewis, “rumor has it that you like your actresses vintage…”
After then saying that she would be thrilled to go to the ball with him, she adds, “I’m no Betty White, I am only half as mature as she is, wink wink, but I’m twice as funny!”
To be fair, this is likely as much a ploy for attention as Lewis’ original video was. But we like the way the script is flipped, with a “mature” actress cracking on her own age instead of a young man doing it for her.
Here it is. Well played, Linda Hamilton:
