The Hollywood Reporter — a much more credible magazine than the type that usually reports that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are getting married — has confirmation from a high-profile jeweler that an engagement ring was designed for Jolie, by Pitt, which kind of leads us to believe that they might actually be tying the knot:

Who is Robert Procop? He’s about to be a household name, we predict. The Beverly Hills jeweler and former CEO of Asprey & Garrard, the British jewelry company to the English royal family, confirms to The Hollywood Reporter that he has designed an engagement ring for Angelina Jolie. A rep for the jeweler says, “I can confirm that, yes, Robert Procop did indeed design an engagement ring for Angelina Jolie, designed in collaboration with Brad Pitt.”

The main question that this raises for me is, why? Why now, why at all? Not that I have anything against marriage, but these guys have been together for so long, so happily without putting a ring on it that a wedding kind of seems like a moot point.

Fortunately, here to answer that question for me is Brad Pitt. He claims that it’s all for the children:

“…it seems to mean more and more to our kids. We made this declaration some time ago that we weren’t going to do it till everyone can. But I don’t think we’ll be able to hold out. It means so much to my kids, and they ask a lot. And it means something to me, too, to make that kind of commitment.”

THR notes that the ring took a year to design, and is made from diamonds that were procured from mines that the couple owns, which are outfitted with Four Seasons accommodations for workers, all of whose children Angie and Brad have adopted.

Just kidding. It doesn’t say anything about where the diamonds came from. We’ll go ahead and assume that they are freer from conflict than a pair of love-making unicorns. Congrats to the happy couple.
