By now, you have likely heard that accomplished designer L’Wren Scott was found dead of an apparent suicide in her New York City home on Monday. The tragic news sent shockwaves through the fashion community, with celebrities, brands and friends voicing their deep sadness regarding Scott’s death at the age of 49. However, few people close to Scott have been spoken about more by the media than Scott’s life partner, Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger.
On Jagger’s official Facebook page, he posted a beautiful image of Scott accompanied by the following text:
I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way.
We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves.
She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.
I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received.
I will never forget her,
Just as Julia said earlier, L’Wren Scott was so, so much more than simply “Mick Jagger’s girlfriend” (well, life partner, given that they were together for some 13-odd years). She was a 6’3″ wonder of a woman with immense talent, profound creativity, and a huge following of celebrities whom we all love, style-wise and otherwise (Christina Hendricks, Bobbi Brown and Elizabeth Hurley, to name a few). She deserves so much more than the BS headlines that have been supplied in the last 48 hours by outlets that should know better.
Still, I am so sad for Mick Jagger, Georgia May Jagger (who’s canceled her Melbourne FW appearance in light of Scott’s death) and everyone else whose lives she positively affected. The act of burying a loved one, particularly one who has died so young, is such an unequivocally painful thing to go through, so while we doubt they will be reading this, we nevertheless wish her family and friends all the best.
