The CFDA Awards went down last night and the big winners were Proenza Schouler (womenswear designer of the year), Phillip Lim (accessories designer of the year) and Suno (Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent in Womenswear). Oh, and everyone who’s famous for their red carpet presence showed up too–Jessica Chastain, Rooney Mara, Kerry Washington and a whole slew of models.
Here’s what the very stylish and the very victimized wore to the so-called Oscars of fashion.
Staying relevant is continues to prove challenging for Joan Rivers. More
Shhh! If you listen closely, you can hear the sound of fear stirring in the hearts of fancy people across New York as they prepare for this evening’s Met Gala, the biggest society event of the year. Since the 2013 theme is punk–and we already know how anxiety-making this is for them–we thought we’d offer some helpful Met Gala style suggestions from real punks, old and newer.
You guys like safety pins, right? More
I am displeased with the Met Gala’s “Punk: Chaos to Couture” theme, but I’m having a hard time pinpointing why. However, because I’m pretty sure I am not alone on this front, and because we have spotted other blogs putting up photos of Gary Oldman playing Sid Vicious without realizing that it’s Gary Oldman in costume, I think it is probably a good idea to examine why this theme is stupid.
Full disclosure: I do not know much about punk. More
Last night, Baz Luhrmann‘s hotly anticipated reimagining of The Great Gatsby premiered in New York and the glittery movie’s cast showed up in their glitteriest looks. Except Carey Mulligan, who went the extreme opposite direction.

In a scene straight out of some assistant’s worst nightmare or secret fanfic, Anna Wintour and Marc Jacobs wore the same coat to Thursday night’s screening. More
If you thought the Met Costume Institute’s upcoming exhibit Punk: Chaos To Couture was going to be some sort of nudity filled free-for-all, think again: the Vampyre Anna Wintour is never sleeping, always watching, to make sure it doesn’t get too crazy. More
Hey! Turns out people hate Victoria Beckham. Huffington Post created a list of the most hated people in fashion. Most of them won’t surprise you – Anna Wintour is often thought to be the Devil, John Galliano is indeed anti-Semitic, Oliva Palermo got famous mostly for being on a TV show, and so forth. But the addition of Victoria Beckham did surprise me (in the number two slot, just below Anna Wintour, no less). More
In search of some nice, cool shade to sit in and read a book, and perhaps eat a sandwich? Look no further than Anna Wintour‘s latest (alleged) diss on Kim Kardashian, which contains enough shade for the entire African continent and some of South America, too. More
Do you ever wonder what is going to happen to Anna Wintour in her twilight years? I often wonder that. And then I think those twilight years are going to be 200 years from now, because I am pretty sure that Anna Wintour is a vampire. Why? Because vampires are pretty steely and intelligent (you’ve never heard of a dumb vampire) and Anna has looked exactly the same for 20 years. That is just my personal theory though! I guess that is not S.I. Newhouse’s theory (or maybe it is?) because Anna Wintour is taking on the role of is taking on the additional role of artistic director of Conde Nast. So that is where she will be in her twilight years. More
John Galliano is sober and ready to get back into fashion; blames his anti-Semitism on the “al al al al alcohol.” More
Le sigh… Lapo Elkann is pretty much like Mighty Mouse. More
Everyone deserves a meme. Especially Anna Wintour. More
