After the red carpet dystopian wasteland that was yesterday’s Grammys scramble–and the subsequent mad dash to give the BAFTAs their due–the Elle Style Awards went and took place! That was very selfish of them. Anyway, there were some famous people, some so-called “style icons,” some supermodels and some nobodies in weird clothes. Let’s have a look… More

I know, I know: fashion photography is weird, models don’t always need to be smiling, and what seems unpleasant to one person is often beautiful to another. But I still can’t help thinking Miu Miu’s spring 2013 campaign looks like the least fun homoerotic all-girl sleepover I’ve ever had the pleasure of peeking in on. In it, big name models including Adriana Lima, Arizona Muse and Doutzen Kroes play weird bed games, stand around an empty table, and never, God forbid, make eye contact with one another. Cheer up, guys. You are about to get eaten out by your fellow supermodels while wearing several pounds of couture. More
i-D Magazine has put out eight winter covers featuring a mixture of models and entertainers, as is their wont, and most of them are pretty cool. Lena Dunham, Cara Delevigne (pictured) and Neneh Cherry all try their hand at the magazine’s signature winky face. But which cover is the coolest? I’m so glad you asked. Come along with me on a multimedia journey to the top of this virtual pile of magazines. More

Look, the obvious answer is, “No.” Don’t wear pajamas in public. Part of being an adult is putting on clothes. However, thanks to design houses like Louis Vuitton and (especially) Celine, pajamas have gone a little high fashion lately. Salma Hayek–who wears pretty much nothing but luxury labels now that she’s married to PPR CEO François-Henri Pinault–hurried though LAX wearing the above silk set.
We’ve been plugging our ears and covering our eyes for a little while, hoping this trend gets lost because the fashion industry has a way of getting you used to things that, rationally, you understand are stupid. Call us sartoial regressives (don’t actually; you’ll sound like a dick) but the only thing sillier than going out dressed for bed is spending thousands of dollars on silk pajamas. Check out a few examples and tell us if you’re swayed. More
…Because there was less of it!
Kanye West–who we had a field day mocking last season–showed his second womenswear collection in Paris Tuesday and it would appear that he took some of that widespread criticism to heart: West showed only 20 looks and drew a few favorable comparisons to Givenchy and Costume Nationale (HAH!), thanks to his rumored army of high-profile consultants. We think the collection was still facile and incoherent, but you can decide for yourself. More
“Beauty at Burberry Prorsum was all about recreating an unassumingly sexy and ‘worn’ look,” reports WWD from yesterday’s Burberry show at London Fashion Week. Makeup artist Wendy Rowe created the look using eye colors from Burberry’s beauty collection (natch), which she described as something for “a girl who has been out and about in the city and then she is going to the countryside.” More
You know what sounds like a good idea for a striking, funny, provocative fashion editorial? Imagine a beautiful model… wearing outlandish couture, flowing caftans, immaculately tailored sheath dresses… while buying groceries in a supermarket. Yes, a regular old, garden-variety supermarket. The most mundane of environs. Wouldn’t that be camp? And tongue-in-cheek? In fact, the whole idea of juxtaposing couture opulence with menial tasks is just so rich!
“Cruise” is kind of an obnoxious season for fashion in that it stretches the boundaries of willful suspension of disbelief, no? I mean, regular people might be able to fantasize about someday having enough money to buy Louis Vuitton clothing, but to buy Louis Vuitton clothing and go someplace warm each winter? Get out of town. The campaign for Louis Vuitton’s 2012 cruisewear line is, however, quite nice to look at, mainly because it stars Arizona Muse. The LV website even has some cute videos of Arizona gallivanting around Paris in her smart, flowy Louis Vuitton clothes, which is strange because it’s winter in Paris right now, but we’re already in pretty fantastical territory so I’ll let it slide. Okay, we promise this is our last 2011 round-up (it is, after all, 2012). We’ve already sifted through the best red carpet looks of last year, its most controversial advertisements, the best and worst dressed and the most annoying… now we must celebrate all of its best fashion models. This year saw Karlie Kloss shoot for the title of supermodel, Crystal Renn land her first (and much-deserved) Vogue cover, the startling debut of Saskia de Brauw, the rise of Arizona Muse, the continuing reign of Freja Beha Erichsen and the all-out domination of Andrej Pejic. Check out these and more of the year’s top models, then tell us your favorite. More
Arizona Muse closed Vera Wang with a visible blood stain on her knee and we think that’s pretty cool of her. Way to tough it out. More
Jil Sander’s final collection for Uniqlo (+J, as it is known) hits stores September 7th and there will probably be a mad rush for the crisp modern outerwear. Know what you’ll be hunting for with the following lookbook, which stars Arizona Muse and a scene-chewing wind machine. More
