Like many young women who enjoy wearing cute clothes but don’t have a ton of cash to burn, I have a total love/hate relationship with H&M. I was reminded of this the other day when, finding myself in Manhattan for an event, I decided to get my subway fare’s worth and pick up some summer staples at the mega-chain’s Soho location. I arrived in a pretty good mood, having just stalked, and met, Bret Michaels at Petsmart. (Don’t ask.) Two hours later, I left feeling grumpy and raw, but with a bag of spoils raised triumphantly over my head. I had obtained clothes! But at what cost? In this slideshow, I will explore the pros and cons of shopping at the Swedish fast fashion leviathan, from the patently frivolous to the sorta important. More

When I read yesterday that H&M’s CEO was committed to using models with a wider variety of body types, I was encouraged. Here was a company using its immense power to make some positive change in the world. But if this latest gossip item is to be believed, the company still has a long way to go to undo the bad habits of the past. More
H&M has been in the news a lot lately. It was one of the most internationally well-known chains to sign the Bangladesh Safety Agreement, and it also impressed people by casually inserting a plus-size model into its “regular” photos. Now, the company’s CEO Karl-Johan Persson has gone on the record acknowledging a lack of size diversity in H&M’s models, saying he wants to do better in the future. More
You know, there are a few places I would think that, as a woman, you can go and be fairly certain you will not be sexually assaulted. For instance… you know, okay, I can actually think of very few. But being a performer onstage was one of them. I basically thought that if you were a performer like Beyonce onstage performing, you could be fairly certain no one would sexually harass you.
As always, I thought wrong. More

The 2013 Met Gala took place last night and
it was all our worst fears realized interesting! While the theme–PUNK: Chaos to Couture–was largely ignored, it was still observed enough (and hilariously misunderstood) to slip up many attendees.
And slip up they did! We don’t know which was worse–those who showed up completely indifferent to the theme, or those who embarrassed themselves trying. Here’s a mix of both, in our picks for the 2013 Met Gala Worst Dressed. More
Gwyneth Paltrow is hitting the promotional trail really hard for her latest cookbook–a collection of recipes not featuring food–and her latest stop is the cover of People magazine’s Most Beautiful issue. We’re not saying Gwyneth Paltrow isn’t very beautiful, we’re just saying these things are especially hard to take seriously when the person on the cover has something to peddle. More
I’ve always considered myself a feminist. It surprises me that lately I seem to be in a minority.
We heard a while ago about how Beyonce considers herself a “modern day feminist” (she said we needed a new word for it) and Taylor Swift really doesn’t even want you to suggest she’s a feminist. When I was making a list of celebrities who do identify as feminists it… kind of took a while. More
