Fashion Disaster Of The Week: Cate Blanchett Versus Christina Hendricks

Fashion Disaster Of The Week: Cate Blanchett Versus Christina Hendricks

Here at TheGloss, we try really hard to be unbiased and fair. We also try really hard not to lie, so you can see how that’s going. Anyway, we’re all big fans of Christina Hendricks–she’s Joan Halloway! she represents positive change! she seems awesome!–and we’re also big fans of Cate Blanchett–she’s smart! and talented! and has great style!–but that doesn’t mean they get a permanent pass. …Like, for example, Tilda Swinton. Gallery: How To Wear Head-To-Toe Winter White

We’ve been thinking about how to pull off head-to-toe white lately because 1) it’s currently all over the red carpet and 2) it’s always a popular (but dangerous!) choice at holiday parties. When done well, one looks like a radiant snow angel. When botched? A lost bride. Here’s a bunch of famous ladies–Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Alba, Tilda Swinton–who’ve had great success with white looks in the past month or so.

The sleeved wedding dress worn by Kristen Stewart in the latest Twilight installment has been the subject of heated debate around here: some of you would wear it, most of you think it’s pretty ugly. Here’s our picks for the best of them, from heavyweights like Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera and more. More »

Would You Wear: Vera Wang’s Black Wedding Gowns

Would You Wear: Vera Wang's Black Wedding Gowns

It’s Bridal time (FUCK YEAH MARRIAGE)! All the heavy hitters–Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier, Oscar de la Renta–are showing wedding collections for Fall 2012. Interestingly, the heaviest hitter of them all, Vera Wang, was feeling pretty moody: black wedding gown levels of moody. For what it’s worth, Wang was wading into darker waters last season (she showed lots of dove gray) but still kept it pretty romantic and delicate. This collection, however, is downright goth. I don’t mean to be a completely ridiculous parody of my high school goth self but… I kind of like them? More »

Gallery: The Top 10 Black & White Looks Of NYFW

Today’s our last day of rounding up the trends of Spring 2012 from NYFW, so we figure we’d cap with something that everyone can wear regardless of skintone, body type, height etc: monochrome. Here’s our 10 favorite looks. More »
