Every day, there’s another celebrity hawking wares, from skincare lines to diet pills to home decor. Celebrities can make millions of dollars from endorsements, especially if the celebrity is well known and popular. Just last week, Julia Roberts made $1.5 million from appearing in a 30 second commercial for the Italian coffee brand Lavazza. In the ad, Roberts sips the coffee and doesn’t utter a word. More
Celebrity endorsements have long been a mutually beneficial relationship – a brand gets the cachet of being associated with someone famous, and the celebrity gets paid handsomely for use of their name and likeness. But for every great celebrity endorsement … More
Earlier today I wondered if it was shallow to dismiss fashions I might wear because I disliked the celebrity associated with them (I keep saying “associated with” because “designed by” just seems dubious). Now I turn my question over to you. It strikes me as shallow to avoid, for example, a good pair of jeans that make your ass look great because Jessica Simpson inked some deal somewhere saying she’ll show up at stores and promote them as her own, but realistically she probably had little (or nothing) to do with their design. Today’s Lust Object proved challenging in going with today’s theme of whether or not celebrity-designed collaborations are ever a viable fashion option. Granted, this cape doesn’t strike me as particularly Beckham-esque… if anything, its breast-concealing capeness is intuitively anti-Beckham. But no matter. More
Amy Winehouse collaborated with sporty English brand Fred Perry and released a lookbook yesterday. The clothes–a mix of bowling shirts, polos and pencil skirts–would be nice for a 50′s themed party of some sort, maybe a Grease screening. This got me wondering, though, would anyone buy a garment because Amy Winehouse had some hand in its making? More to the point, wouldn’t people avoid clothes based on Winehouse’s involvement? After all, at this point Winehouse is more famous for stumbling around the streets of London looking a fright than she is for any cute retro style. This reminded me More
I get it. Every celebrity now has to be “multihyphenate” and have their own skin care line and their own home furnishings company, just because. But sometimes slapping your name on every product that exists doesn’t always improve a celebrity’s … More

Over the weekend a friend introduced me to her new boyfriend. He’s a personal trainer and does some modeling on the side. He mentioned that he’s featured on the box and appears on the infomercial for some “ab-blasting machine.” He … More
Lindsay Lohan posted the above tweet today. I guess hastily adding the word “ad” at the end of a tweet means it’s a paid tweet, right? And if it’s a paid ad, then I seriously doubt she actually “bought” that … More
