The 2013 Met Gala took place last night and
it was all our worst fears realized interesting! While the theme–PUNK: Chaos to Couture–was largely ignored, it was still observed enough (and hilariously misunderstood) to slip up many attendees.
Since this isn’t a typical red carpet, our criteria for the Met Gala Best Dressed list is thus: in order to make the list, attendees had to (at least) allude to the theme while simultaneously looking like themselves. The best looks were a little off, or more than a little. More
It’s time, everyone. The 2013 Met Gala–or, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala, if you’re nasty–is upon us. While we have really, really mixed feelings about this year’s theme–Punk: Chaos to Couture–and we know most of the attendees are nervous about committing (despite our helpful styling suggestions!) this is still the biggest red carpet event of the year. Expect one or two unforgettable looks, lots of playing it safe, some real style, some real glamour and, hopefully, a whole lot of beautiful disasters.
So, per usual, we’ll be updating live throughout the red carpet. Come back and refresh often–expect new looks here every few minutes!

So Elle Brazil’s May cover is out, and it features an uncharacteristically naked Coco Rocha. While the photo is very beautiful, some may recall the model’s previous statements that she isn’t comfortable doing nudity or partial nudity. Did she become more comfortable with it, or was there some foul play on the part of the magazine? More

Trouble’s still brewing over “Haute Mess,” a controversial editorial from the March issue of Vogue Italia starring, among others, covergirl Joan Smalls, Jessica Stam, Abbey Lee and Coco Rocha. Inside, the models are styled with outsized makeup and costumes, which Vogue Italia swears is in homage to “messy drag queens.” However, many noted that the models’ wigs–coupled with fast food, pregnancy bellies, gold teeth, Colt 45 and the overall theme of trashy glitz–felt more than a little classist. If not more than a little racist… More
You know how Joan Smalls scored the March cover of Italian Vogue and it’s a big deal because a black woman hasn’t covered that particular magazine in four years? …Unfortunately, some critics suggest that Italian Vogue might be chipping away at the significance of Smalls’ placement, saying the editorial that accompanies it is kind of racist.
