For the latest issue of VMAN, photographer Irina Werning got various male models to re-enact photos from their childhoods. Scanning through the photos, I’m struck by several things. First, the clothes and hairstyles that trendy young people are wearing today are often not so different than what they wore as children in the 80′s. Surprise. Second, the poses read as feminine in a lot of the pictures, because we’re so used to seeing female models pictured in a childlike way. Why do these pictures come off as playful and funny, while with female models, it might come off incredibly creepy? Because the fashion industry has a Lolita fetish that only applies to women, is why. I’d be surprised if Werning did not intend to comment on these issues. More
